BNDES and Petrobras launch a public call to support the recovery of mangroves and sandbanks on the Brazilian coast

11/17/2022 Since 3 years

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and Petrobras have launched a public call to support projects that aim to recover native vegetation in mangrove areas and sandbanks in Brazil. This is the first matchfunding investment in “Floresta Viva”, an initiative that seeks to contribute to the ecological restoration of Brazilian biomes.

The financial support will totalize an amount in local currency equivalent to 8.2 million dollars and will be divided into equal parts between BNDES and Petrobras. The public call foresees the selection of up to nine projects, covering the three macro-regions (North Coast, Northeast/Espírito Santo and South/Southeast) defined in the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Endangered Species and of Socioeconomic Importance for the Manglar Ecosystem (PAN Manglar), prepared by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). The selection will prioritize proposals that guarantee the success of interventions in terms of native vegetation recovery, biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, long term results and social and economic impact. The closing deadline for sending proposals is January 31st, 2023.
