CFE places sustainable bond to finance renewable energies
02/10/2022 Since 4 years
Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced the issuance of a USD 1.75 billion sustainable bond. The proceeds will be used to finance investment projects and renewable energy and energy efficiency activities.
The placement was made in two tranches, one for USD 1.25 billion maturing in 2029, and another for USD 500 million maturing in 2052. The rates are 275 basis points above comparable US Treasury bonds for the shorter-term paper and 400 basis points difference on the 30-year debt. Demand was 2.1 times the amount issued and more than 250 different institutional investors participated.
The state-owned company assured that they will also serve to accelerate the energy transition and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
