Colombia will have the largest fleet of electric buses in Latin America
10/20/2021 Since 4 years
Within the framework of its energy transition strategy, the Ministry of Transportation of the Government of Colombia has -in recent years- established policies so that mass transportation systems could acquire zero and low emission fleet. As a result of these policies, there are currently 587 electric buses in operation among the MIO, Metroplus and TransMilenio systems of the cities of Cali, Medellín and Bogota respectively.
About 1000 additional electric buses are expected to arrive between February and April 2022 in the transportation system of the capital city of Bogotá. Colombia, with about 1600 electric buses, would then have the largest operating fleet of this type of buses in massive transport systems in all of Latin America.
