IDB Invest to improve Uruguay’s transport network with support for Circuito Vial 5

Autovías 5 SA, a company incorporated in Uruguay to build, operate and maintain Circuit 5, received a $54 million loan from IDB Invest. The financing component of the project is completed with the participation of other local and international co-financing banks, totalling a financial package of approximately USD 138 million, and with the sponsor’s own capital.

The project will design, build, rehabilitate, operate and maintain 184 km sections of Route 14 (from Sarandí del Yí to the town of Lascano) and Route 15 (from Lascano to Velázquez). Some sections of the project will be built from scratch and others will be significantly upgraded, increasing connectivity and productivity of the southeastern part of the country with the rest of Uruguay’s main or trunk roads and with the coastal area of the Uruguay River, as well as safety. It will also help alleviate traffic congestion.

The implementation involves a 20-year concession contract and a construction period of approximately 36 months.
